What We Do

Welcome to Red Light Australia, your no-BS companion to the land down under’s colourful (and often misunderstood) sex industry.

We’ve been covering the top adult services in Australia’s major cities for over 12 years.

Our site was founded by Simon Regal, the editor at AdultVisor, one of the premier adult industry blogs.

What started as a tiny directory of Sydney’s best brothels (way back in 2013) has blossomed into a massive site covering everything from strip clubs in Gold Coast to tiny massage shops in Darwin… and everything inbetween.

You can think of us as your slightly inappropriate mate who always knows which bar, club, or backstreet door to try (and which ones to avoid unless you fancy a mug of instant regret). 😉

Why We Exist

Australia’s adult industry is huge, legal in parts, patchy in others, and about as consistent as the beer selection in a rural RSL.

Yes, you’ve probably noticed by now: information is scattered across a handful of punter forums, often outdated, and usually served with a side of marketing spin that makes every establishment sound like the Shangri-La of sex. Or maybe you’re just winging it via Locanto.

In which case, you are truly fucked.

That’s where we come in.

Red Light Australia casts the net far and wide, compiling all of the latest intel into a handful of useful city guides. Each is periodically updated with the latest pricing, punter feedback, opening hours and whatever else you need to know about the extracurricular fun.

We dig, we cross-check, we lurk on forums, we listen to locals, and – let’s be honest – we have a few writers who know the scene a bit too well.

All so you don’t waste your time, money, or dignity.

The Origins of RLA

Our site started as a collection of regional portals – Red Light Sydney, Red Light Melbourne, Red Light Gold Coast, and so on.

Some of our oldest readers might still remember when we first launched, covering the Sydney area exclusively:

Nobody had aggregated ALL of the adult services in Sydney into a single useful resource. Well, a couple had tried, but their sites were either obsolete or barely scratching the surface of what we found.

And, sure enough, we quickly discovered exactly why it was such hard work.

Tracking hundreds of venues, many of which operate through word of mouth (and disappear overnight)… well, it’s pretty time intensive!

Still, myself (Simon) and my biz partner Mike worked in tandem with a circle of trusted local punters to expand our coverage across all of Australia, talking about the shit that nobody else would, trying to keep the massive trove of intel and punter insights somewhat… organised.

No easy feat.

In 2017 we made the decision to combine each of our local sites in to one Red Light Australia mega-site, encompassing the entire country. And here we are today.

What You’ll Find Here

Our coverage is wide-ranging but it boils down to this:

“Is it a form of adult entertainment in Australia?”

If yes… we should probably cover it.

Red Light Australia has several key sections:

  • City Sex Guides – Whether you’re in Sydney, Melbourne, or Darwin (yes, there’s action up north too), we’ve mapped the venues, quirks, and etiquette to expect.
  • Brothels & Massage Parlours – Where it’s legal, we’ll spell out what’s on offer, what it costs, and what to expect. Our Sydney and Melbourne lists are infamously large, covering almost 300 legal venues.
  • Strip Clubs – From glitzy CBD clubs to low-lit suburban dives, we’ll show you what separates a top night out from a waste of a cab fare.
  • The Local Escort Market – Each city has its own pricing, local agencies and preferred directories for hiring call girls. And the law varies from state to state.
  • Swinger & Fetish Communities – Aussies love a bit of open-minded fun, and the clubs here are every bit as wild and welcoming as their European cousins.
  • Red Light Districts – Kings Cross may be a ghost of its former self, but other Aussie cities have their own seedy corners worth knowing about. We track their changes over the years.

What Makes Us Different?

We’re not the only directory covering Australia’s sex industry.

Many have tried, and some have done a decent job of it.

One of the things that sets us apart is that we’re not running ads for brothels, escort companies, or any of the venues listed on this site. We’re not taking kickbacks from the services we list.

We’re not telling you this massage joint has “the most beautiful girls in Australia” because the owner slipped us an envelope full of moolah. And trust us, many have tried!

Our listings are free, independent, and written with one thing in mind: giving punters the clearest possible picture before they open their wallet.

That independence means sometimes we’ll be blunt. And sometimes we’ll get our intel tits-up and need to be corrected. Corrections are always welcome!

Not every spot deserves a glowing review, and we won’t fake one. While we aim to cover the scene comprehensively, we’re not going to pretend that we’ve tried all of these services.

Fuck no.

We’d be on the highway to purple bollocks and rapid bankruptcy if we tried.

A Note on Bookings (Please Don’t Ask)

Sorry, fellas.

We’re not your pimp, your PA, or your personal fetish travel agent.

  • No, we can’t “arrange a discreet GFE in suburban Hobart on Tuesday at 2pm.”
  • No, we won’t “call around for a party-friendly trans couple in Adelaide.”
  • And no, we don’t actually OPERATE any of the services or venues listed on this site.

We provide info. As best we can.

We’ve spent over 12 years accumulating vast intel on the Aussie sex scene, and we’d like to think we know the ins and outs better than most.

We’re in a good position to share we’ve learned, but what you do with the information is up to you.

We cannot handle bookings, and if you have a shit experience somewhere… we’re sorry, but there’s nothing we can do about it!

Sexpats, Tourists & Local Legends

Is this site useful for sex tourists? Of course it is.

Same goes for expats, curious locals, and wide-eyed first-timers.

But let’s be clear: we don’t celebrate bad behaviour. If you roll into a venue acting like a buck’s night idiot, you’re not just embarrassing yourself, you’re making life harder for everyone else.

Don’t be a dickhead.

It pains us when we hear from owners talking about ‘bad apple’ Johns who rolled into their venue after learning about it on Red Light Australia.

Respect the people, respect the place, and you’ll have a far better time.

That said, if you do have a great experience somewhere, and they ask where you heard about their service, we always appreciate the shout out!

A Journey Through Australia’s Adult Industry

Australia’s reputation might be beaches, beers, and barbies – but scratch the surface and you’ll find a surprisingly diverse and lively sex industry.

Each city has its own quirks. Right down to the state level, what’s legal in one part of Australia can land you in the shitter across the wrong border

We’re here to shine a light on all of it. The good, the bad, and the “this sounds like a crap novel

So dive in. Bookmark us. Share us with that one mate who always asks “where do I go in…?

Got a tip, correction, or funny story from the scene?

Don’t sit on it.
