While brothels have been legal (when fully licensed) since the early 2000s, rub and tug parlours rarely bothered with the licensing requirements, and thus have been given short shrift by the authorities. AMPs have been subject to numerous crackdowns, with as many as 49 massage shops said to be offering happy endings and extras that were against the law… before the law changed.
Prior to decriminalisation, brothels were expected to pay expensive licensing fees, whereas the AMPs operated shadily on the sidelines — not paying the fees, charging less, and attracting many of GC’s frequent punters.
As you’d expect, this was a constant source of annoyance to the brothel owners.
However, with sex work now decriminalised, the playing field has been levelled. This is both a pro and a con for the massage shops in Gold Coast. While they can now freely advertise their sexual services, there’s likely to be a price squeeze from other providers competing in the same space.
Areas like Southport have as many as 8 massage shops competing for the same clientele, while Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and Mermaid Beach all have multiple parlours.
As we’ll see below, punters looking for an adult massage have three options:
- Use a purpose-built brothel with complete choice over the provider (high cost)
- Use a massage shop where YMMV (low cost)
- Use an escort or find a masseur using the classifieds (cost varies)

We’ll start by taking a look at the most expensive options, which come with the least hassle.
Gold Coast has several high-profile brothels that specialise in providing full service. While their menus are catered to customers seeking full sex, they will still provide erotic massage, often at a discounted rate.

Most of us would agree that Goldie falls a long way short of matching Brisbane for choice, but you can still find plenty of options if you know where to look.
From our experience, the massage shops have zero web presence beyond ads posted to classified sites and escort aggregators. Punter forums are a good way of assessing the options, but much of the intel is out of date or skewed by a good or bad experience that could be put down to a single outlier service provider.
What we can safely say is that the Gold Coast Highway is by far the most common location for these shops. One punter described the turnover of parlours as “like watching wild mushrooms pop up” off the busy GCHW.

This is a well-known AMP with a large red frontage on the corner of Glenelg Ave. Their Locanto listing is updated regularly with details of new girls working in the shop — a tell-tale sign of the clientele they’re trying to attract. We’ve seen various positive reviews on sites like Aus99, but you have to balance these out with some of the [kinda amusing] horror stories on their GMB listing.

We’re not kidding when we say the GC Highway is stacked with massage shops.

There’s a few good reasons why you might fly solo:

- It cuts out the middleman. The shops have to keep the lights on, turn a profit, and pay extra staff. Providers on Locanto can drop their prices lower by operating freelance.
- You can find some really good masseurs who aren’t available in AMPs. We’ve seen everything from GC OnlyFans girls hustling on the side, to crazy Tantra-obsessed cougars. Gold Coast has some talented masseurs capable of edging you into oblivion.
The downside to using the classifieds for happy endings is obvious: it’s the Wild West out there.
There’s no guarantee that the girl you see in the advert is the girl you’ll see at your hotel room door. Bait and switch scams are rife on these platforms.
Don’t get us wrong: it’s not like AMPs are particularly reliable. Most Goldie punters will tell you upfront that the scene is hit-and-miss (and in our opinion… it’s pretty crap compared to Brisbane). But at least you can leave an AMP in a hurry if it all goes tits-up.
By contrast, things can get pretty damn awkward with random girls from Locanto. It’s worth using an escort directory — like Scarlet Blue (which has profile vetting) — to lower the risk of getting royally catfished.
