What does decriminalisation mean for the local escort scene in Brisbane?

Well, in short: it means that a sex worker hasn’t committed an offence if she (or he) carries out sex work in Queensland. Crucially, the old licensing system has also been scrapped, meaning full service is now legal across the board, whether it takes place in a licensed brothel or elsewhere.

Previously escort agencies were illegal in Queensland. Both operators and sex workers could be prosecuted for relying on the popular agency model.

Escort agencies are now legal under the new framework, provided they comply with general business and health regulations like any other industry. As we will see below, this change is not yet reflected by a sudden surge in outcall agencies. As things stand, both punters and escorts rely on the major Australia-wide escort directories to arrange their bookings.

It’s currently host to “999+” escort adverts, which basically means they’ve hit the limit and stopped counting.

The major benefit of using a classified directory like Locanto is, surprise surprise… price.

Take away the option of standing on a dodgy street corner at 3:00am — and Locanto has the cheapest roots you will find in all of Brisbane.

The drawback is you have no fucking clue what you’re getting until it turns up on your doorstep. Could be anything. Could be feral.

In short: yes, they do have some dirt cheap punts, but classified sites are loud, risky and disorganized. It’s the Wild West out there. The escorts using them are incentivised to make bolder and bolder claims (or use fake photography)… whatever makes the fastest buck.

Our advice for dealing with freelancers is to avoid the classifieds and use one of the established escort directories we’ve listed above.

While they are not as safe as a trusted escort agency, they do at least have some safeguards in place, and it costs money for the girls to advertise on them. The risk of a bait-and-switch is much lower.
