Brisbane Hookups: Fancy Trying Your Luck?

Featured image for our Brisbane hookups guide

Dating in Brisbane is similar to Melbourne and Sydney, but a whole lot sweatier.

The same rules apply. Dating apps are huge here. Everyone’s on Tinder, Bumble, or Hinge, and because the city’s small, you’re bound to see the same faces popping up on multiple apps. There’s even a bunch of dedicated Facebook groups for singles (try Brisbane Social Singles).

Tinder is regularly blasted as a ‘one night stand’ app — the fuck-boy’s paradise — but for our purposes… that’s not necessarily a bad thing, is it? Hinge and Bumble, by contrast, are much more catered towards traditional dating. While you can use Tinder for hookups, you’re obviously not the first guy to have this idea. Competition is fierce.

Whichever app you use, you’ll quickly discover Brisbane girls are spoiled for choice — and they know it. If you’re blessed with looks in the top 5 or 10%, you’ll do fine. If you’re not… RIP.

The dating pool in Brissie? It’s got that chilled-out Queensland vibe, but don’t underestimate the cliquey nature of her social groups. The city is small enough that your reputation follows you.

It’s often said that the girls of Brisbane are friendly, but not in the common dickhead-fake-friendly way that you might find in a Melbourne bar. The downside, if you’re trying to pull, is that it’s nowhere near as metropolitan either — far fewer international types.

The women are not as caught up in the whole ‘city status’ thing as you’d get in Melbourne or Sydney, which means they’re more down-to-earth. You’ll see a lot of outdoorsy types here—they’re into fitness, hiking, and spending the weekend up at the Sunshine Coast or Byron.

As always, though, if you really want to hook up… finding women with mutual interests and expanding your social circle is the best bet. Shared hobbies and mutual pals are the best ice-breakers.

Random pick-up lines in a packed Brisvegas bar are treated with suspicion, unless you look great (or filthy rich). Your ‘game’ is far less important than blending in with her peers.

Popular Brissy Hookup Bars

All work and no play makes Jane a dull girl. Be prepared to hit the bars on a Friday night to find women who are looking to let their hair down. 😉

The nightlife in the Valley is packed with options— everything from craft beer joints to high-energy clubs. Here are some popular pickup venues, ideal for those who are single and looking to mingle:

Brooklyn Standard

Eagle Lane, Brisbane City, QLD 4000

https://www.brooklynstandard.com.au

Brooklyn Standard

This popular spot has scooped the Best Live Music Venue in Australia at the Aussie Bar Awards three times — in 2015, 2019 and 2021.

The crowd at Brooklyn Standard is a huge part of what makes it great for pickups. It’s a mixed bag of people, but everyone’s there for the same reason: to let the hair down and cut loose.

You’ve got professionals unwinding after work, groups of friends celebrating, and a bunch of fun-loving partygoers who aren’t taking themselves too seriously. It’s relaxed, and the girls are generally way more approachable because they’re just there to enjoy the night.

Brooklyn is open from 6pm to Midnight from Monday to Thursday, and from 6pm to 3am on Fridays and Saturdays. Music starts at 7:30pm but the best acts start at 10pm. Our advice is to get in early to stake a good spot at the bar.

Friday’s Riverside

Riverside Centre, 123 Eagle St, Brisbane City QLD 4000

https://fridays.com.au

Friday's Riverside

Friday’s is a rooftop bar with stunning views of the Brisbane River. Popular with city workers on a Friday night, this restaurant operates a full nightclub from late night. Best to go on a Friday night and wait until the girls get a little more flirty; particularly the 35-45 year olds!

It’s not the cheapest watering hole in town (by any stretch), but it’s got stunning views of the Story Bridge, a swanky atmosphere, and a crowd that’s dressed to impress. The women here? A mix of the city’s high-fliers—professionals coming straight from work to unwind, the socialites, and the party crowd ready to kickstart the weekend.

The Victory Hotel

127 Edward Street, Brisbane, QLD 4000

The Victory on Edward Street

Brisbane’s favourite meeting place, the Victory Hotel (or “The Vic” as the locals call it) is popular with students as well as tourists and city workers.

The age range is actually quite wide but your best bet for pulling is downstairs. This place has six bars each with its own unique vibe from live sports to karaoke, loud music to intimate relaxed spots this place has it all.

Oxford 152

152 Oxford Street, Bulimba, QLD 4171

https://www.oxford152.com.au

Oxford 152

If you’re looking to hook up with a slightly older woman then try Oxford 152. It’s a fashionable and up-market cocktail bar which plays loud music in the evenings. The women here are classy and the venue is too, so the dress code is definitely smart.

The 152 strikes a nice balance between chilled-out pub and sophisticated bar. You’re not walking into a rowdy scene, but it’s also not so quiet that your pick-up game is exhausted in the first ten minutes.

Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall

15 Caxton Street, Brisbane City, QLD 4000

https://leftysmusichall.com.au

Lefty's Old Hall

Lefty’s is an old gentleman’s club with heaps of old world charm and the hallmarks of an exclusive theatre. It’s racked up several awards over the years, including Bar of the Year and Best Entertainment Venue in 2024.

The theme here is Americana Reborn. Think taxidermy bears and dears adorned with stray bras and throw in a heady mix of country music and blues. Dimly lit chandeliers, intimate booths and a great atmosphere make this a good place to hit up girls who are in groups.

Unsurprisingly, it’s also a smash-hit with American tourists passing through Bris.

Sixes and Sevens

67 James St, Fortitude Valley QLD 4006

https://www.sixes.com.au

Sixes exterior view

A riotously-popular gastropub (slash converted cottage) on James Street. Sixes is never short of singles looking to mingle over cocktails and wine.

We have to caveat this recommendation with a major caveat: we don’t recommend this venue for old souls, or in fact… anybody over 30.

The crowd is young, stylish and chic. Very young. If you’re flush and loaded in your early twenties, you can have a great time here — pulling should be no problem. Any older than that? You’re probably gonna be tagged as somebody’s uncle.

Specialist Venues For Adult Fun

The clubs and bars above are great for tapping Brisbane’s vibrant nightlife, but let’s be real: only a small percentage of revellers are actually game for the casual NSA fun we’re looking for.

If you really want to bet the house on a sexy atmosphere, Brisbane has some kinky alternatives: swinger clubs and sex party venues.

We’ve already covered these in extensive detail via our swingers guide, but some notable venues you may want to check out include:

  • Taboo 225/6 Cairns Street, Loganholme Queensland 4129 – A private residence frequented by swingers with regular sex parties. It has a lounge area, manned BYOB bar, 6-person spa and dance floor, with more than 8 bedrooms to explore, including a BDSM room. Single guys can book in advance for $80.
  • 4Bidden Parties – Events are held in various locations across the Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast area. Aimed at swingers, they typically take place in private residences or hotels. Some events have limited availability for single guys. But uhh… let’s just say, you could be sticking out like a sore thumb if you’re flying solo.
  • Hellfire Club130 Leichardt Street, Spring Hill, QLD 4000 – One of Brissie’s most famous fetish clubs. The crowd is a lively mix of fetishists, perverts, drag queens, TV/TS and sexual deviants which is all good for anyone in the lifestyle who fancies something a little more alternative.
  • Mike’s PlaceUnit 12/6 Maunder St, Slacks Creek QLD 4127 – A legendary venue for the local swingers scene. There is a lounge, bar and spa as well as an outdoor area and private play rooms. Fridays nights are open to single guys (advance booking required). Saturdays are for couples only.
  • Encounterz86 Brisbane St, Ipswich QLD 4305 – Events are held weekly on Fridays and Saturdays. Their website has a calendar of upcoming parties, including themes like ’50 Shades of Black’ and ‘Friday Wax & Electro’. Entry for single guys costs $90.

Dating Sites For One Night Stands In Brisbane

If you can’t be bothered with sweating your tits off around the CBD, and you’ve lucked out on Tinder, there are some more ‘direct’ options for finding a fuck buddy via our trusty friend: The Internet.

These websites offer paid access to Queensland-based members who are looking for no strings attached sex. The benefits are obvious:

  1. Everybody knows the drill (it’s for casual sex)
  2. Members aren’t going to get pissy if you’re obviously trying to score a hookup

Adult MatchMaker

https://www.adultmatchmaker.com.au

Adult Matchmaker

Australia’s biggest online directory of adults looking for no strings attached fun, Adult Matchmaker is not your usual online dating service. Far from it. The company was founded on the basis of bringing likeminded people together.

A huge proportion of the sites 2.5 million Australian users are looking for a casual encounter, and there’s more than enough Brisbane freaks and kinks to keep your inbox ticking over.

AMM was the first Australian hookup site to introduce a profile verification system. Users with blue ticks have been verified as genuine. Elon would be proud.

Red Hot Pie

https://redhotpie.com.au

Red Hot Pie

If you read our swingers guide, you’ll already know that Red Hot Pie is Australia’s favourite melting pot of Lifestyle followers. It has more Brisbane swingers than any other site. And consequently, it attracts heaps of local events, sex parties, orgies and gangbangs.

Adult FriendFinder

https://adultfriendfinder.com

Adult Friend Finder

If you are familiar with hookup sites, then chances are we don’t have to explain the appeal of AFF.

Adult FriendFinder is the world’s largest community of likeminded adults looking for sexy fun, one night stands, affairs and other hookups. For sheer numbers alone, it’s the best first port of call.

Keep in mind that Aussie users are only a tiny fraction of the total member-base on this site. Queensland is well covered, though, albeit without the localised events and meet-ups that you’ll find on AMM or RHP.

SDC

https://sdc.com

SDC Australia

SDC is like Adult FriendFinder, but specifically targeted at swingers and open-minded couples. It has the same global reach, meaning you can expect a massive community that extends far beyond Oz.

The site has a convenient suburb listing tool, meaning you can really drill down through QLD and find all manner of kinks, fetsters and shady blokes looking to help their wives get laid. Single guys are treated with suspicion… but if you’re looking to roleplay as a Brissie Bull? Check it out.

No Strings Sex on the Classifieds (QLD)

Before dating sites became the norm, classified sites were the most popular way of connecting to singles online. These days, they are mostly used by escorts, erotic masseurs and scam artists.

When we say ‘connecting to singles’… this particular crowd is skewed heavily towards no-strings fun. We can’t imagine many Brisbane blokes met their wives on Locanto.

Locanto

https://www.locanto.com.au/brisbane/Casual-Encounters/207/

Casual encounters in Brisbane

Locanto is the most famous of the remaining classified sites, certainly now that the infamous Casual Encounters section has been retired from Craigslist.

You can post ads here, or reply to the various listings, but let’s be straight up: it’s a fucking minefield boys. The appeal of using a dating app is you at least have some form of vetting. There is no such vetting on Locanto.

As you can see from our screenshot above, Brisbane has plenty of ‘Women Looking For Men‘. But it takes about five seconds of scrolling through these listings to realise that most of them are from Queensland’s escorts and private companions.

DoubleList

https://doublelist.com/city/brisbane/casual/list/

DoubleList is one of several sites to emerge from the cucking of Craigslist and the forced closure of BackPage. It has a section for casual sex that is predominantly used by gay men.

R/R4RBrisbane

https://www.reddit.com/r/r4rbrisbane/

Reddit is an interesting option that falls somewhere in the middle-ground of being a classified site and a makeshift dating app. You can delve in to the background of any user who posts here, although obviously most of the Brisbane hookups ads are from Redditors using burner accounts.

This popular Brisbane subreddit states:

r4r in the Brisbane area – North side, South side, doesn’t matter, find someone from Brisbane here. Whether you’re seeking platonic friends, non-platonic friends, online gaming partners, soulmates, travelmates, groups to join, activity partners, friends with benefits [fwb] / casual encounters, etc. This is the place on Reddit to find and seek.

The board is active with around 20-25 posts per day, and nearly all of them are looking for some variation of a root. Not sure we’d be using this to find non-platonic friends. 😂

Punting Options: Brisbane Hookers

Finally, we have the last resort for some… and the first port of call for others.

Queensland fully decriminalised sex work in August 2024. That means you can pay for sex — legally — and as long as you’re not making a public nuisance of yourself, you’ll be just fine.

We’ve already covered the various brothels and erotic massage shops where Brissy does a roaring trade. The prices at these establishments range from $80 for a dirt-cheap AMP, to thousands of dollars for a luxury courtesan and her best pornstar-experience-impression.

One thing we shouldn’t have to point out… but still must… is that street-based sex work remains illegal. Kerb crawling and loitering for sexual services is not only dumb, but it can land you in the slammer, too. This is actively enforced by the local police.

There are so many options where you can legally get full service around Brisbane, it makes zero sense to be using the streets. We have a ton of resources covering legal establishments, so please think with the correct head if you’re going to pursue this kind of NSA sex.
