Sydney is the undisputed capital of adult entertainment in Australia. One look at Google Maps tells you all you need to know: sex sells in Sydney. The concentration of licensed adult venues rivals just about any major city in the world.
Our Sydney Sex Guide covers the top legal and licensed adult services from Sydney and the state of New South Wales. And boy, there’s a ton of X-rated thrills to be enjoyed.
From luxury brothels in the CBD, to the historic ‘red light district’ of Kings Cross, and the many bustling suburbs overflowing with AMPs… the Harbour City is dripping with possibilities.
Sex In Sydney
Sex and Prostitution In Sydney
NSW is famously home to some of the most progressive and liberal sex work laws in all of Australia (and the world). Sex work was decriminalized in 1995, making Sydney one of the easiest places to make a living from the adult industry.
Brothels are legal (when licensed appropriately), as is prostitution. This progressive approach followed the infamous Wood Royal Commission, which exposed police corruption and prompted reforms. We now have a situation where sex work itself is legal, but the business side gets handled like any other commercial use.
Inevitably, Sydney is home to some of the country’s most famous bordellos.
There are adult services available for every taste, fantasy and budget: from $60 Blow & Go parlours, to luxury courtesans charging thousands per hour.
The city once had a single notorious red light district – Kings Cross – but times are changing fast. After years of lockout laws and COVID closures, the neon of the Cross has dimmed, and many venues have closed or moved. The scene is much more fragmented than it used to be.
Sex work has dispersed across the city and often moved online.
Still… Sydney has a large, visible industry by Australian standards, and it’s been that way for years.
Both Victoria and (more recently) Queensland have joined the decrim club and scrapped their licensing schemes, so the east coast is now broadly aligned. Sydney has lead the way.
Punter’s Views
We asked readers for their thoughts on the sex industry in Sydney. Some select highlights below:
I didn’t realise how common it was for guys to go to brothels and AMPs until I moved to Sydney (from Wayville). New office, very different attitude to hookers – let’s just leave it at that! It’s an open secret in the office that several of the guys drop in after work. And when you look at a map of the different venues around the CBD, it’s not like they’re short on options.

The business is changing for sure, and Sydney is a prime example. Inflation has seen prices go up and I’m having to charge more than I did pre-Covid. I don’t see much slowdown in business, but the type of regular clients is changing. More affluent fly-by-night types. It’s a shame to see regulars disappear but it is what it is. On a personal level, I’ve branched in to OnlyFans and camming on the side. OF is excellent and the schedule is much nicer, but cam modelling is tough with all the international competition (and much lower pricing).
Anon escort (NSW)
The level of choice around Sydney is pretty much as good as you’re going to find in Australia. Not just brothels and massage shops, but escorts of all prices – particularly the touring international types. Unfortunately I’ve seen a lot of change since Covid and the value is not as good as it used to be. A lot of extra services that were included for free 10 years ago now come with big extra costs. $50 here, $30 there… it all adds up. The premium agencies are still raking in the cash, but I think there’s been a downturn in the middle market. Sydney is still #1 for choice, but you better have some deep pockets if you want access to the best girls.

Escort Industry
Sydney’s escort scene is thriving and increasingly online-driven.
Independent escorts and agencies advertise on specialized directories and social media, and clients can browse profiles and reviews before arranging a tryst.
Since sex work is legal, escorts can operate openly – and most of them do.
Agencies are legal too, although the law against “living off the earnings” means an agency has to tread carefully to not be seen as exploiting workers.
If we take a look at the major escort hubs, it’s clear that Sydney has a gigantic selection of courtesans and call girls vying for punter business. More than any other Aussie city.
Top escort directories like Scarlet Blue and Escorts And Babes have listings in the hundreds. Both feature verified profiles with photos, services, and rates. The listings on these sites skew slightly higher than the classifieds, with options like Locanto representing the ‘budget’ end of the market (and often littered with brothel and massage shop ads).
The metropolitan demographics of Sydney makes for a really varied and mixed escort scene. You’ve got your mix of high-end Aussie locals (charging premium rates), touring companions from overseas, and a steady influx of Asian call girls – many of them moonlighting from other local adult sectors.
Sydney also has a few high-end agencies offering arranged outcalls or incalls at their premises.
Boardroom Escorts is one of the major players here, mostly appealing to executive types – those willing to cough up rates starting at $600 per hour for ‘catalogue’ models, or $1000 per hour for professional commercial models (many who have appeared on TV or in magazines!).
Other popular VIP agencies include Hush, Empire and Mona Lisa.
Sydney Brothels
Sydney brothels are the stuff of legend.
Our must-read Sydney brothels bucket list contains over 75 different venues scattered across the city, from the CBD to the Southern Suburbs and far beyond.
The only two cities we can think of that serve as many legal bordellos in a single city are perhaps Berlin and Melbourne!
In all honesty, you’re spoiled for choice here… Sydney’s brothel scene covers the full spectrum, from the $100 quickie parlours tucked above massage shops to five-star “gentlemen’s clubs” where the wine list is longer than your arm and the décor looks like it was pinched from a Versailles side room.
Variety is obviously the city’s strong suit:
- CBD & Inner-City glamour houses in Surry Hills, Darlinghurst and Haymarket… plush themed rooms, spa suites, and line-ups that look like they stepped straight out of an Instagram thirst trap. Prices here tned to start around $180–$250 for 30 minutes but scale up fast w/ extras.
- Asian-focused “mega clubs” like the Ginza and Kyoto houses, where Japanese and Korean line-ups rotate weekly. Many of these sit within a few blocks of each other in Surry Hills.
- Budget suburban walk-ins scattered through industrial strips in Annandale, St Peters, Brookvale and beyond. These can be as low as $100–$140 for 30 minutes, with rosters heavy on Chinese, Thai and mixed-Asian girls.
- Niche and fetish-friendly spots for ALT Johns. You’ve also got places like Black Cat Parlour, where you can add a little kink to your session, or mature-themed houses specifically for those looking for older call girls.
If we had to pick a hotspot, it’s Surry Hills/Darlinghurst, which has the densest cluster of legal brothels in the country. You could walk Riley, Commonwealth and Cleveland Streets and pass half a dozen licensed venues without even trying.
The Inner West (Annandale, Camperdown, St Peters) is another decent pocket, often with cheaper rates and easy parking. Head further out and you’ll find Western Sydney gems like Parramatta’s 24-hour houses.
Sydney is known for offering a mix of bordellos for every budget, with many of the top venues operating 24/7 throughout the year.
Red Light Districts
For decades, Kings Cross was the Golden Mile, crammed with strip clubs, walk-up brothels, spruikers on the footpath and a scattering of addled-street workers plying their trade under the Coke sign.
In its heyday (1960s–1990s), the Cross teemed with US sailors, bohemians, and all kinds of underworld figures. It was the domain of notorious madams like Tilly Devine and lately the stage for the TV series Underbelly.
If you’ve walked past it recently, you don’t need us to tell you: the culture has changed!
It ain’t like it used to be!
Much of that glitz and grime has been swapped for wine bars, boutique hotels and late-night dining. The Cross still has a handful of adult venues (Showgirls strip club + some adult shops), but the old-school sleaze has been sanitized.
Other areas have taken over the mantle, if not the ‘official’ status of being red light districts:
- Surry Hills & Darlinghurst now carry the torch as Sydney’s unofficial red light belt. It’s joked that you can spot more brothel entrances than cafés… but it might actually be true! Most are fully legal, council-approved sex services premises, but not all of them.
- Chinatown/Haymarket has its share of upstairs massage shops and small brothels hidden in commercial buildings.
- The Inner West (Annandale, St Peters, Camperdown) has small clusters of venues along Parramatta Road and in light industrial pockets. Generally much cheaper for Johns.
While street-based sex work is still legal in NSW, you won’t see much of it now.
Likewise, the old Darlinghurst “Wall” – once a famous trans streetworker strip – is mostly quiet, and we see that many workers have shifted to online platforms.
The Price of Sex in Sydney
How much does sex cost in Sydney?
Well, it’s more a case of which ‘tier‘ of adult service you’re willing to pay for.
A common benchmark at the working class end of the market is: “$150 for half, $250 for full”.
Brothel Prices: For a standard full-service session at a legal brothel, expect roughly $100–$150 for 30 minutes at the budget and mid-tier Asian establishments. Chinatown or suburban brothels hover around $120–$140 per half-hour. High-end brothels (like Tiffany’s, or those with Aussie SWs) charge more: around $180–$250 for 30 minutes, and can be $300–$400 for a full hour.
Escort Rates: Independent escorts and agency girls set higher prices. In Sydney, many mid-range independent escorts charge $400–$600 per hour (with a 2-hour minimum common for outcalls). Top-tier, in-demand escorts (the kind with upscale photos on Scarlet Blue) often ask $700–$1000/hour. So… not cheap at all. But that’s the high end. Budget-friendly independents on Locanto or forums offer hours in the $300s, and we occasionally see newer girls offering even lower.
Street Rates: Reports from punters suggest street pickups hover around $50–$100 for a quick blowjob or half-and-half.
Erotic Massage & Extras: Many massage shops offer a “standard service” (nude massage + hand relief) for about $70–$100 per half-hour. If full service is on the menu at a Syd massage place, it often comes as an add-on: so something like “$100 + $100 tip for sex,” effectively $200 total. Cheaper than the brothels, but usually not by much.
Erotic Massage Shops
Short of offering full service, Sydney’s erotic massage shops do a roaring trade, with the classic rub-and-tug venues operating in practically every corner of the city.
We have an extensive guide covering Sydney’s top adult massage choices. Suggest you start there if you’re looking to narrow down the options.
By law, massage shops aren’t supposed to advertise sexual services but behind closed doors many do oblige. The scene is huge: walk through the CBD or any suburban strip and you’ll spot signs for “Thai Massage” or “Body Massage” – some are legit therapeutic, but plenty will give you more than a backrub if you ask nicely (and pay).
One look at their opening hours (and marketing materials) is a stone dead giveaway of whether there is more on the menu!
Sydney offers more than just tiny AMPs. It has some luxurious massage shops where you can enjoy a raft of sensual extras.
Major venues on the scene here include:
- Kings Court Massage – Broadway (Glebe). Arguably Australia’s largest and oldest massage parlour, established 1990 at its current spot. This is a classic wack shack with a Tudor-style lobby and multiple themed rooms.
- Bodyrotic – Camperdown (Inner West). Billed as “Sydney’s premier erotic massage venue” with a bunch of awards to show for it.
- Bliss On Crown – Woolloomooloo. Won ‘Best Massage Parlour” at the Adult Industry Choice Awards (2024).
Rest assured, you’ll be paying a lot more for a body rub in these joints than the typical Asian R&T.
Sex Clubs In Sydney
If you’re looking to play with others in a more social setting, Sydney’s got you covered with a couple of popular swingers clubs and kink parties.
These are “sex on premises” venues where you’re almost certain to walk into a gangbang, orgy or some kind of sex party if you make it through the night.
Popular spots include:
- Our Secret Spot (OSS) – Annandale (Inner West). For our money, this has to be Sydney’s premier swingers club, and it’s known for being female-friendly and stylish in equal measures. Co-founded by Jess Cattelly and Lawrence in 2013, they moved from a small Darlinghurst location to a larger Annandale warehouse space in 2020 – taking the party with them. Parties run every Friday and Saturday night across this huge venue, complete with a dungeon area!
- The Couples Club – Surry Hills (CBD fringe). A long-running swingers club that predates OSS, offering a more traditional experience.
- Fun4Two – Rydalmere. Hosts popular staples like Newbie Night and Lingerie Night. Has a lounge area, dance floor and pool tables for mingling.
Sydney Strip Clubs
Sydney’s strip club scene used to be dominated by The Cross, but that’s not really the case anymore.
These days the action is split between the CBD’s glamorous gentlemen’s clubs and a handful of survivors in Kings Cross, plus a smattering of suburban “strip pubs” for those willing to venture further out.
The CBD clubs like Minx on Pitt Street or Men’s Gallery on Oxford Street have gone upmarket, with strict dress codes, champagne lists, and fancy-pant interiors. You’ll get polished stage shows, private dances starting at about $50 a song, and VIP booths or rooms if you’re in the mood for longer one-on-one time.
As you’d expect, the CBD attracts a mix of business types, bucks parties, and couples chasing a bit of high-gloss fantasy.
Kings Cross still has one of its stalwarts… Showgirls, flying the neon flag under the Coca-Cola sign. It’s brasher and a lot more touristy than the CBD lounges.
Beyond the city, you’ve got the strip pub experience… places like Sefton Playhouse out west. Here it’s topless waitresses, fully nude stage shows, pokies in the corner, and pints at pub prices. Far more casual and much more likely to attract the ‘regular’ type crowd.
That said, Sydney’s strip clubs generally follow the same rules: no touching unless a dancer invites it during a private show, no full nudity until after a set hour (normally midnight), and absolutely no sex on the premises… plenty of brothels for that!
Local Sex Shops and Adult Stores
Sydney’s adult retail scene is pretty impressive.
You’ve got everything from boutique, couple-friendly toy stores to sprawling “adult supermarkets” where you can lose an afternoon.
We’ve got a list of popular sex shops in Sydney. Popular options include:
- Pleasure Chest – Level 1/705 George St, Haymarket NSW 2000. A local institution. Open 24/7, and has been for decades.
- Max Black – Level 1/264 King St, Newtown NSW 2042. A bit further out in Newtown. This is the crown jewel for anyone who wants a sex shop without the Cross-style sleaze. Bright, beautifully merchandised and packed with major brands.
- The Toolshed – Basement/191 Oxford St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010. The place to go for gay male toys, leather, and heavy-duty fetish kit. It’s unapologetically hardcore in here.
If you’re hunting for hotspots, we’d say the Newtown strip is your best one-stop crawl (Max Black and Adult World are a short walk apart). Oxford Street caters more to the LGBTQ+ and fetish crowd.
Chinatown also has a scattering of smaller shops.

Someone above said that “cam modelling is tough with all the international competition (and much lower pricing).”
I believe I can find a brothel that is cheaper than these sites. Maybe the models are being ripped off but I have paid 100 for about 10 minutes on web cams.
I’m actually hooked on them and usually stay longer than 10 minutes or the minimum.
Cams are big money, for sure.
There’s also the resell value of their shows. A girl can go private with Punter A and sell a voyeur stream of the same show to Punter B, C, D, etc.
Not to mention the free-for-all of tips.
It surprises me that there aren’t more Aussie cam girls out there when you count the number of Sydney brothels/escorts. All of these girls could earn a very decent amount with many less headaches to deal with.
